The Kabal Grows

Decided to give some new range models a shot. These were done in a few stages and ended up taking way too long to complete. Feeling pretty good about how the paint went on there, but it's obvious I need more brush control on finer details, especially eyes.

Skinwolves bray and howl

Had little and less time for painting lately, but did manage to finish these 4 old metal Khymerae for my DE. The squad will be 5-strong but I was missing a slotta for the last doggie.

Piss-Soaked Hell

Finished at long last with a squad of old metal Wyches. As I may or may not have mentioned I am attempting to hone my skills on the uglier old line of DE before besmirching the much nicer new sculpts with my paint slathering.

Anyone have any tips for taking pictures that don't look like they were taken under a pissbowl skylight?  I put a "natural light" bulb in my desk lamp, but its obviously not cutting the mustard.

Friends of Hell

This is a flyer for a DJ night that never was. The venue scheduled us and then decided to axe their monday-night DJ slot altogether. Dick move. Still psyched on the image!

More Graveyard Delving...

Finally got around to taking more pictures of my putative DE force. Practicing on older models cause they're ugly and I care less about screwing them up.

...and here's a couple close ups on warriors I was pleased with:

Final Doom

I've finally finished the DEATH WOUND poster. It's been picked up and will soon be printed. Psyched.

Genesis of an Abomination

Here are the WIP shots of the promo poster thing i mentioned! Going for more of a lighthearted vibe, comical poses, ridiculous overuse of spikes, etc.

Evil stirs....

Psychotic butchery!

Got to have this finished for thursday. Lots of work to do......

Sepulchral Whispers

Here's a few drawings from the somewhat recent past. I hope to get a working scanner again soon so I don't have to contend with phone pictures. I'd also like to learn how to use those drawing tablet things professionals have.

Working on a poster for the first issue of DEATH WOUND and I will post some WIPs soonish

It Begins

40k hobby stuff. Recently got back into it. Haven't touched the stuff since like 2002 but just got the urge. Liked the fluff and steez of DE so I'm collecting, assembling, and painting the Kabal of the Slit Throat.

To set the scene: Painting (and drawing, and modeling, and whatever else) corner.

A closer look:

Three warriors (out of the old starter set, gifted by a friend) have ascended from the lightless murk of black basecoat to the corpse-light gleam of the tortured suns of Comorragh.

For first attempts, I'm cautiously optimistic. the leftmost warrior (first pic) was painted with a drybrush technique, and while quick, I wasn't terribly happy with the level of control my skill level afforded, so for the ensuing models I am attempting to freehand the building of the highlights. These "test" models were basecoated with Armory Primer, which is disgusting. It came out with that awful, granular, "flocking", so bad on most of the models that I had to strip and switch back to the trusty Rust-Oleum "Painter's Touch", which while somewhat less matte than the Armory crap, provides a reliable, thin, quick drying and smooth coat that obscures none of the details of the models.

The face on the helmless model I am repelled by. Not enough to strip the one and start over (yet), but I really need to practice my flesh technique and color layer combinations.
